Advocacy Event Supporting Refugees
✦ Please keep in mind✦
The work described below was completed in collaboration with my AmeriCorps Vista partner, Andy Jo, while working as an AmeriCorps Vista member at Catholic Social Services in Anchorage, Alaska.
The Refugee Assistance and Immigration Services program is one of eight programs at Catholic Social Services - Anchorage, the largest nonprofit in Alaska, and the only resettlement agency in the state.
Once a Stranger, Now Home was an art event, advocacy effort, and fundraiser we hosted to support refugees and immigrants in the Anchorage community. Our goal was to elevate refugee voices, share their art and stories, inspire advocacy, and raise funds for the program. Hundreds attended, writing letters to their representatives and showing support. Together, we raised thousands of dollars and created a meaningful evening of community and solidarity.
